March Update: Nabil and Wissam express their gratitude to everyone so far supporting them. We are currently trying to evacuate them from Gaza before Wissam gives birth. Her pregnancy has been challenging, and accessing adequate care is impossible due to the dire condition of the hospitals amidst the ongoing war. * "My name is Nabil, and I am reaching out for help in evacuating my family from southern Gaza to Egypt and rebuilding our lives in Turkey. I am a resident of the northern Shujaiya neighborhood. As the war unfolded, we lost our home and my animation production company, Sununu Studio, where I invested everything I owned. Tragically, I also lost my sister, her husband, and their family. Our entire neighborhood was ravaged, leaving us with no choice but to evacuate to southern Gaza. However, even here, it is no longer safe for us to reside. I am desperately seeking a way to leave Gaza and bring my family to a safer place, starting with Egypt and eventually relocating to Turkey. My family comprises myself, my wife Wissam who is pregnant, and three children—Bisan, 6 years old, who had her first year of school cut short by the war; September, my second daughter, in her third year of school; and two-year-old Bayan. During the initial stages of the war, my wife, children, and I were separated, living apart for over four months. With your support, we have rented a temporary home in southern Gaza to reunite as a family, but even here, our safety is compromised daily. An amount of $17,000 would enable us to evacuate from Gaza to Egypt and with $50,000, we could secure a safe place to live; this financial assistance would also help me revive my animation company, providing stability for my family, education for my children, and the means to rebuild our lives. I am a visual artist working in children's book illustrations and animation. Sununu Studio, which I founded, has collaborated with Oxfam on the documentary series "Don't Stop Dreaming" and contributed to a movie for the Climate Summit in Egypt 2022. Prior to the war, I had three employees, and we were on the path to establishing a successful Palestinian animation company, imagining a better world. Even if the war were to end, my home region in Gaza would need years to recover. I have lost both my home and workplace, and the majority of homes in the area have been destroyed. The infrastructure, including hospitals, water, and electricity, has been obliterated. Gaza is no longer suitable for human life, necessitating our urgent departure. Your generosity will not only address our immediate needs but will also provide hope as we seek refuge in a safe environment. Regardless of the donation size, your support holds immense significance and will guide us toward a brighter future. Thank you so much for your assistance. Warmly, Nabil Abughanima" This fundraiser is organised by T. Ruusuvuori, a friend from Finland who got to know Nabil during an artist residency in Cite International des Arts, Paris, in 2016. Since then, Israel’s closure policy has blocked most Gaza residents from traveling abroad via Israel, restricting their rights to work and study elsewhere, preventing artists, students, and others from pursuing opportunities within West Bank and the rest of the world (source: Human Rights Watch). So, sketch it out in your mind's eye." -Nabil A still image from the short film that was made as part of the pressure campaign to adopt the Family Protection Law, in partnership with the Palestinian NGO Forum to Combat Violence against Women. Shujaiya neighbourhood after bombings (source: NBC https://www.nbcnews.com/storyline/middle-east-unrest/360-degrees-devastation-gaza-neighborhood-left-ruins-n177706) Update April 26th: The house near Nabil's and Wissam's house was bombed and a window glass fell on their children while they were sleeping. There were minor injuries on their faces. We are almost half way of the first goal that will help the family towards a safer place. Please consider sharing with your community and with three people directly. Thank you for your help! The window after last night
